Survivors Not Victims
We should not see ourselves as “victims” and the fact that many of us do errantly think of ourselves as such is why there must be this false choice. We are, as Bob Marley sang eloquently, “survivors” and survivors are triumphant by having survived what they had to endure, still maintaining and projecting their own humanity throughout. We have been “victimized” but we do not and must not define ourselves by that victimization. We must both acknowledge it, to take steps to discontinue it and confirm our transcendence of it so we can create beyond it.
