What bothers me is we take no shorts in this when we talk about other historical subjects, but in religion we move from scholarship to ideology and we make excuses for slackness. Legitimate scholarly debate about religion requires just as much professional training and study as in other fields like chemistry or history. My own experience is that while our people are very religious, they generally have not studied religious systems, particularly their own and so a lot of biases, errors, and prejudice about them gets presented in the movement as fact. When we skip the work of depth study, we end up being divisive rather than unifying, misleading rather than leading.
